Golden Countryside

"Golden Countryside", oil on canvas panel 5"x7", by Katarzyna Lappin (c).

Small works are good sellers. Recently five  of my new small works  were sold in just one evening at an art event. Having only two left, I decided to create a bunch more. This is a sunny landscape of a Swedish countryside. The reference material provided my sister who lives in Sweden and every once a while she sends me her photos of places she knows I would like artistically.  I find painting landscapes very relaxing and refreshing. The summer is coming so I thought it's a good theme to create few works with the golden tones.

Dear Katarzyna:

Beautiful 5 x 7. Who would have thought that it was a 5 x 7?! No wonder your 5 x 7's are selling well. They are beautiful.

I finished four 5 x 7 pastels a few weeks ago and have to frame them yet.
I was wondering what type of frame you have put on your 5 x 7's. Are they wide frames or not as wide a frames??

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Again...

I went to your works on your web site and just saw and realized that below the photo of your paintings, you also show it in a frame. Great idea!!!
Beautiful work.

Thank you Sandy for your nice comments on my work. Framing is important to me and I usually match a frame carefully to make sure it is interesting and emphasize a particular work. With 5 by 7 there is no pattern for me. Sometimes I choose wide frames, sometimes heavy antique, sometimes ornamental. I know that people pay a lot of attention to them. Pastel works have more delicate look so you don't want to overwhelm them with frames too thick or too heavy. I would use a paper frame around it and put it in a 8 by 10 or even 11 by 14 frame. Experimenting is fun.
Thank you.
