President's Eisenhower Visit in Chula Vista, 1960
Topics: Chula Vista Centennial
This painting is a part of my Chula Vista Centennial collection. It commemorates the visit of President Dwight Eisenhower in Chula Vista, CA, in 1960. It was a hard painting for me to do. I didn't want to just "copy" the presidents face from available photos from the public domain. About four different photos helped me to create his portrait. Two years ago a camphor tree was dedicated in front of the Chula Vista City Hall, in remembrance of this significant visit and the memorial was placed in front of it . My intention was to combine those elements in one painting.
